(with contributions from the Global PeaceTech Hub, Integrity Institute, All Tech is Human, Search for Common Ground, and more)
In an increasingly polarized digital world, the Council on Tech and Social Cohesion invites researchers, designers, peacebuilders, and policy thinkers to join a forward-looking workshop on “Design Governance”—a novel approach to tech governance that centers social cohesion, not just safety.
How can we champion and advocate for emerging technologies that foster social cohesion? How can we influence the funding landscape, or policies which could boost both public and private investments? Go beyond conventional tech governance that emphasizes privacy and content moderation. Introducing “Design Governance” – a fresh concept we’re eager to unpack with you. Imagine a world where tech giants are taxed for designs amplifying polarization and incentivized for boosting social cohesion. Let’s explore these possibilities together.
This session, hosted during the 10th anniversary of Build Peace in Nairobi, offers a unique space to imagine and advocate for technologies that do more than avoid harm—they actively foster connection, inclusion, and shared purpose.
Together with a diverse coalition of organizations including the Global PeaceTech Hub, the workshop explores how to reframe governance models, shape funding priorities, and build policy tools that incentivize responsible design.
